^^^Good advice here. BTW, I'm boosting at almost 140K now, no troubles. If you're not sure about the condition of YOUR engine, do a quick compression test and leakdown test.

Well 100k miles isnt bad as long as the truck is in good running condition. As far a the boost gos, there are many options out there. Kb racing, trick, nelson, they all make great kits. As far as parts gos, turbo kit, intercooler, fuel pump, injectors, and a tune. Tricks has the stg 1 kit for $2k, you can get a intercooler off ebay and a piping kit for another $200- $300 and do that part yourself. Injectors $300-$400 42lbrs or bigger. Fuel pump about $150, tune $250= $500. Hope this helps, Nick
btw food for thought, a buddy of mine works with this guy who supposedly is a real guru on vortecs, like i said "supposedly" and he says with the amount of miles that are on my engine i could boost 4-5lbs and then cross my fingers bc its only a matter of time before it blows the engine, he says by 100k the bottom end is really tired. then on the other hand my other buddy said i should be fine with 8lbs all day... granted he owns a tbi 350...thoughts?
also where is good place on line for inexpensive headers for a turbo set up...also i believe i failed to mention that my truck is a '01 4.8l 4x4 rclb and for about the past 10-20k ive used fully synthetic, dont think that makes any difference at all but i figure the more info the better...thanks guys

how much would that cost me, and can almost any mechanic shop do that?

Thought 1: As long as your "vortec guru buddy" isn't the guy doing it, yes. Expect to pay 1 to 1.5 hrs at your local shop rate.
Thought 2: Your "vortec guru buddy" isn't as smart as he thinks he is. Do yourself a favor and find another guy to help you work on your truck. Just sayin......
