Thumbs up 70mm Z71 Stage III Build - Updated with Results

Stage II was injectors, built trans, converter and 12 psi. https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...esults-518656/ Resulted in close to 500 wheel and 12.8 at 104 with a 1.7 60 foot.

Stage III will be:
Billet pump and rotor for the 4L60e from Transbuilderguy.
JFR Triple 12 cam
PAC 1218 springs
Ls7 lifters with new trays
MLS head gaskets
Full valve, seals and resurface job on my 799s
Trunion Upgrade
7.35 pushrods
Texas Speed DOD delete kit/Cam swap kit
China Head Studs
LS2 timing chain and tensioner
6.2 Valley cover

I have a lofty goal of 600 wheel. Math shows I’d have to get ~115 more hp with the cam, drive train and maybe 2-3 more psi. We’ll see what happens, but I am excited about the holy grail Triple 12 cam. Everyone loves this thing. My 60 foot shouldn’t improve ( All Terrains spin ) but I would think I’ll pick up some decent et and MPH.

My LMG 5.3 with 105K miles had compression across all 8 of 142-145 psi. Seems a bit low and I was hoping for 170ish. Do you guys think I should do a complete engine tear down and rebuild the short block with new bearings and properly gaped piston rings for boost ( maybe even some aftermarket pistons )? Or just do the sloppy mechanics top end rebuild and let it eat? Gadgetized, get ready for a man date. =]

I would think find another 5.3L build it on the stand. (so you have a spare)
Clean it up, increase ring gap, install all the parts listed. Let it eat.

600 is a good goal.

NOW your transmission is not going to like you. I am not aware of 4l60 handling that 600hp for any length of time. 500 seems to be the area where they start going south.

As long as all the cylinders are about the same I wouldnt worry about it. The main thing you get from that test is to see if you have a hurt cylinder compared to the others.

I would go with a dual spring personally.

Nice. I pretty much have all the same parts except dual springs. My custom turbo kit with an S369 is in the mail right now so I am excited to compare our trucks once I get it all together. I put my parts list in the dod delete thread.

With the new billet pump and rotor going in, I believe I will have the best transmission Robert can build.

My tuner and friends told me the PAC 1218s will work but the better spring would have been a dual style. I got these PAC's at a good deal so I couldn't really pass them up at the time. So now I need to add dual style springs to my list and try to resell this PAC 1218s? arg What exact dual springs do you recommend? Stock48 sells ISKY springs, maybe a package deal.

I was talking to Trick about that. Im not sure but possibly a 70mm w a 65 exhaust wheel. So it might be time to go up to a larger 76 turbo w a larger exhaust side for less back pressure.

76 is overkill for 600

you need a better turbine not compressor

Yes I believe that's what rick was saying and leaning me toward a 76 because of the larger turbine. My current turbo lights up instantly and sounds amazing, I sure am scared of changing turbos and either losing the instant spool or the insanely loud turbo whistle.

Will the cam will help spool a larger turbo faster? Is there a chance the will even out and possibly act the same as my stock cam and current small turbo?

Yes cam will change how the turbo spools (reacts).
Matching the Convertor and gearing to the cam is important.
