Interesting stuff. How much longer does it take the transmission to reach safe operating temp?

Found a guy selling on eBay and Facebook..Lizard Transmissions. Reminded me of George @ RSG who built a couple of franken-T56-magnums for me. From the sound of it, basically builds it with everything except for the powerglide planetary unit.

This way I can pull the ~30K mile 5.3/6L80 stock pair and either sell or put aside for later. At $2500 for the engine and $2300 for the transmission, I might be able to get a significant portion of my money back selling the factory stuff.

"1 6L80E TRANSMISSION STAGE 3 T-REX 900HP NO CONVERTER 4X4 5.3L 1 YR WARRANTY UNLIMITED"

$2300 shipped. No core. Going to use the Yank SS2800 I have on the shelf.

I made over 850 to the tire with a 100% stock (outside of tuning by PatG) 6L80e in old my C6 Vette. Ran fine for years in that car. There's a vendor or 2 on the Vette forums that hawk so called "built" 6L80e units - BUT ... none seem to hold up any better than stock
Re-manufactured with a 1 year warranty 6L80e is only $2400 from GM. Or even better BestBuy out of Florida offers remans for $2300 with a 5 year warranty (put 1 in my brothers truck a couple years back - still going strong).

i wouldn't recommend changing trans for actually nothing in return

6l80e will live with good tune and good cooler , too many people have their stock trans handle more than 700+ for years .

Thanks for the feedback, guys. If I weren't swapping engines already, I probably would try to stick with factory trans. Geoff @ EPS is a friend and a great local tuner so I don't expect issues there.

As far as the transmission builder, he sent me pics of the parts that come out and what is going in with the primary difference being an aftermarket power hub and billet intermediate shaft. This item exactly:

https://transmissioncenter.net/shop/...th-shaft-only/

I even called the mfg and they gave a positive review and did verify that this person regularly buys this part from them.

Joe (@Lizard) is relatively new in direct business, but I don't think so new that someone out there hasn't pulled one of his units apart to see what he put inside.

He says he has worked for some of the larger names in the business but is now working out of a shop behind his house, builds a handful a week, and is comfortable making $400/ea. or so off of the standard builds. He is retired and building the business for his son to eventually take over. All reviews are positive except for one review from a guy that never even bought anything.

So I'd like to believe that this guy is doing just that; passing the savings on while he builds the business and can benefit from the low overhead of a home shop. Assuming it is legit, I think we need more guys like this in the hobby. So I'm throwing my 2300 bones down as a bet that I'll get a great transmission.
