Generally you'll want to use 3rd or whatever gear gives you a 1:1 ratio to get a true picture of your engine's power.

3rd gear locked is 1:1 for the 60e and 80e

2nd gear will give you an inflated number

Some dyno in 2nd for fear of throwing the driveshaft at such a high speed.

If your truck is fairly stock it may not even be able to make a 3rd gear pass or will take along damn time.

2nd won't give you inflated numbers... It will do just the opposite. Will show lower numbers than a 3rd gear pull. If your dshaft can handle the high mph, then pull it in 3rd. Like stated above though, some dyno operators won't even allow third gear pulls for safety reasons.

my theory i have seen alot of 4l60&80 get stick 2nd & 3rd gear on the street .and with same power as before and wont even pull off .it easier to pull in 2nd ver 3rd (more power to pull off) i just had my turbo lq4 tuned and made more in 2nd than 3rd with same tune 30hp different .
