It does make more power, but its really not worth the trouble of changing engines for .4 liters of engine.
If you're going to go with an engine swap, like said above, 6.0L or larger is a must.
i gained 6/10 with my .4 liters....stock cam to stock cam in comparible weather. the difference between a ls1 and lq9 is a toss-up IMO. ls1 was an under rated motor on paper and has some weight savings to go with it. i would drop in either motor. look at the difference between a 4.8 and 5.3. that .5 makes a huge difference.

trade him short blocks. keep your heads and put them on the ls1 (depending on head specs)
