tuning question
#12
I'm in Raleigh, NC.
Is this done with a laptop?
I've heard people using a tech II scan tool, is that also capable of saving it in a file? Or is that something completely different?
Yeah, that would be quite the commute, hah.
Thanks 1Fast, I appreciate the help/info.

The 2 most popular are EFI Live and HP Tuners.
The Tech2 is not capable in this way. It's only allowed to view the Calibration file number and the live data. It can also down load a calibration file from GM's main frame and upload it to a vehicle. It can not change or modify the the file's like a tuning suite can.
Maybe there is some one in your area that can Read the file and give it to you. I don't travel quite that far for work.
It does not cost anything to download the file. It only cost if they make changes and reload it to your vehicle. There is a 1 time Credit that registers your vehicle to the cable to make as many changes as you want to that vehicle.

Yes it's done with a laptop and a cable with a tuning suite software package.

I'll take a look at the sites and check them out. It'll give me a little reading material.
I contacted the original shop about the tune file and he said he would send it over. Granted he said he would send it yesterday but hey, he said he would send. As soon as I get it I will post it up.
I found someone capable and willing to help fix my problem. He didn't want me to throw money at him, he didn't even ask for anything after he spent over an hour with me driving around with his tech II and another device hooked up to my car.
I am going to go update my trans issue thread now.

Yeah, no kidding. Hopefully its nothing major and a simple converter swap is all it needs. That and to go through and tighten what's come loose since its been vibrating so much.
I've been thinking about flashing the tune back to stock to.

Brought it to the dealer today for them to flash it back to the factory tune.
Low and behold, it did not have a tune. POS f**kers lied.
My question is now is about DOD.
When does it engage?
Can it engage in any gear or is it specific to OD only?

Finding out that the dealers cant find all the tuning info using there scanners. I don't want to falsely accuse them of not tuning my truck but, I can say they didn't now what the f*ck they were doing.
I found another shop with a bit more experience, explained my situation and they seem confident they can fix it. They said it sounds like it was tuned for wot because the converter is locking up so early, too early.
We'll see what happens, my appointment is on the 1st at 1pm.

Brought it to the shop second shop, they were very cool. Explained everything while they were going through it. They let me hang around while they dyno tuned it. They really woke it, it drives like a new truck. Its just weird when I'm in OD it feels like it just wants to keep going faster and faster. Its very hard to stay at one speed. I may have to bring it back for them to slow it down some, hah.
I'm at a loss for words. While I'm happy to see some progress, I'm very frustrated and broke after dumping almost $4k into this with no real resolution. This has really turned into a f**king nightmare.
