stall lockup

stall lockup
Is the stall lockup mph dependant on the stall size or personal preference? My G8 has a 3200 stall and goes into lockup at 64 mph in any gear. I was think about lowering the mph lockup to about 55 but I don't have much experience with torque converter tuning. All my tuned cars/trucks are manuals.

There is no set mph for converter lockup at part throttle unless a tuner set it that way which IMO would be dumb. In the table the mph for lockup varies as a function of what gear the transmission is in and TPS. And the tables will be different for different vehicles, rear gear ratios, and tire sizes. Some vehicles are programmed to lock the converter at a set mph in certain gears at WOT. There is really no right or wrong.unless locking it too early or in certain gears causes bucking or drive ability issues. Locking up some aftermarket converters at WOT can damage them if the converter is not built for WOT lockup. Also most stock converters for A6 transmissions are programmed for 20-40 rpm of slip when locked up. Not all aftermarket converters will tolerate that and TCC slip should be programmed out.

Thanks for the info guys! this has been a great help! I'm just trying to get the G8 a little more drive-able for a daily. my truck is down getting the t56 rebuilt and the lq9 swapped in at the same time. Since I'm doing it all solo, its gonna take a while. Kids, wife, blah, blah blah.....
