I think it's necesarry to elaborate as to why a hand held is garbage. Because they only dole out a preprogrammed, generic tune that is not specifically tailored to your truck, where you live/ elevation. Just a generic, conservative tune. The best is software on a laptop and tailor your VE and spark timing and you'll have a new truck..................

I've been looking around reading what people say about handheld's and some say they make good paper weights and some say there pretty good. take for instance the Diablo Sport Predator whats everyones thoughts on that? Ive heard its pretty good and you can take it to a tuner and have them put a specific tune for your truck in it. I don't know if thats true just trying to clarify things.

You can get a custom tune using a predator. Problem is you end up spending $400+ for a new handheld and then another $150-$300 for the tune and its only good for one vehicle. You can spend a lot less and get a mail order tune or a little less and get a dyno tune that will be much better. You could also buy the tuning software to do it yourself and have the ability to tune many vehicles. The biggest problem I see with the handhelds is they are way overpriced for a very minimal (if any) gain. There have been reports of actually loosing power over stock on the dyno after a hand tune is used. The tune is so generic it is just a crap shoot if you will get a gain, loss or nothing. Each engine is different and really should be tuned as such.
