locking the converter at wot
#1
does any one know if black bear locks up the converter at wot on a basic 91 tune ? I have a stock converter and it feels like the converter is locking up at wot around 70mph in 3rd would this kill a stock converter? 4l60e .

Yes that would kill a stock converter, and probably your 3-4 clutch pack also. Not sure if BB would do that or not. Until you find out, I'd recommend stop going WOT in 3rd and 4th. Do you have acces to any scantools that monitor TCC? That would be the easiest way to check.

he usually asks u what converter ur running... out of the trucks he has tuned for us he has never locked it at wot.. the way i would be able to tell its put it in3rd take it on the fwy pick it up to about 70-75 to a point u know it wont down shift to 2nd cruise it for a minute make sure the converter is locked becuase it should lock at cruise.. then hit it at wot since it doesnt downshift it should just unlock the converter. u should c a raise in rpm and a pull.. if it doesnt unlock then its locked.. u dont want too run it at wot like that.. not on a non triple disk converter..

ok on my way to work this morning i get up to 70mph drop it in third, I floor it rpms jumper up then go down like 300 rpm i leave it floored tap the brake while keeping it floored and the rpms jump back up. So i let go of the brake and there they go down agin. this sucks that my converter is locking at wot . and i notice after doing it a few times in a row it will not lock up as hard as the first time .

so by being at a cruising speed, and tapping the break, if your rpms jump a bit, that means your converter is locked ? i noticed that while cruising on the freeway, if i let off the gas then get back on the rpms jump a bit, then back down. this is normal? im sorry if im stepping on your thread.
