He's talking about the hand held unit it's self 
EFILive has a LCD screen on the box on the cable you can watch all the PIDs Live in real time you are BB logging WITHOUT a laptop.
Unless they just added this today, I have NEVER seen any where do down load and play with the actual software without buying HPT. They have some demo Vids, but that's it.

I can't say that to be honest.LOL HPT has been great for me,and there support towards me has been fantastic.I could send an email in the day and I will have an answer within the hour most of the times.Never has taken days or anyhting like that to get to me.
Either way you can not go wrong with either or!!
