for anyone buying HPT I would reccomend the pro version for the simplicity of not having to carry around the laptop

with efilive you can read stuff right off the scanner in the truck, without the laptop. Its really nice I just need my truck to run long enough for me to figure it out.

I just *ordered* EFILive, don't even have it yet, and have never played with HPTuners, so take this with a grain of salt...

I liked the fact that I could download and play with the EFILive software. HPTuners offers videos. I'm actually a software developer by trade. Being able to use the software first was a huge deal for me. Had HPTuners offered a download-able demo version I would have been much more interested in their product.

EFILive seems to be much more allowing of users to customize PCM on their own...correct me if I'm wrong, but the idea of .cax files is verboten in HPTuners, right? At the same time, they're of course offering you more rope to hang yourself with. Then again, either device will break your vehicle if used incorrectly.

The one downside I've seen is that more material seems to out on the internet documenting tuning with HPTuners than with EFILive.

I didn't realize this, is it a recent change (been researching these things forever)? I still can't find it.

Unless they just added this today, I have NEVER seen any where do down load and play with the actual software without buying HPT. They have some demo Vids, but that's it.
