Default GM 6 sp auto

My brother is about to buy HP Tuners for his 07 Silverado (6L) & we are trying to find someone who has done some tuning on the new 6 sp auto (not the Allison). He says the truck won't come out of 4th gear on the highway towing on flat ground, and gets worse mileage than his 5.3L Tahoe did. Anyone played with one of these yet? I don't see any tunes on the HPT site....

Thanks!
Mark

shouldn't be any different than tuning a 4 speed, just more gears. He'll need to first log the condition, then review the log and the tune to see what variable is causing his problem. You'll be looking at logged vehicle speed, engine rpms, and throttle position - those are the three main variables controlling shifts.

He should get worse milage than a 5.3L Tahoe. A 6.0L Silverado with a 6 speed auto only comes in a 2500HD. If that's what he really has, that should get worse milage than a 5.3L with a 4L60E in a vehicle of around the same weight. Tuning the trans should be easy enough for shift points. What gear does he want to run while towing?

The 07 trucks that came out at the 1/2 year point have the 6 sp auto (GM Escalade tranny?) option in 1500s. Or so I'm told. His has one. And I heard they might use a MAF input for shift points....

Not trying to sound like a smart alec but, is he absolutely positive it's a 6 speed in the truck?

There is a 1500 series truck with a 6.0L(VortecMax) but, it doesn't have the 6 speed, just the regular old 4 speed.

If it definately is a 6 speed he should probably take it to the dealer to get looked at.

I'm not sure 6 speed tuning support is out yet in HPT. I know it's not out yet in EFILive, probably not a lot of info around yet.

Looks like nobody here has played with one yet. Thanks anyway....

And for the record, it is a 2500, it does have a 6 sp GM auto, and HPT does support it according to Keith.

look on hptuners forum. There will be some information concerning vettes which use basically the same tranny, but has been around a bit longer. I think I read its vastly different from tuning the 4 speeds.
