Just wondering if flashing the PCM resets the oil life calculator. I decided to stop changing oil every 3000 miles and do it when the light comes on, but I have flashed and reflashed several times since last reset.

I think that is controlled by the BCM.

The Oil Change Life is mathmaticaly controlled by the PCM. It looks at engine tempetures, load, combustion and other parameters to determin oil life.
I would think if you were just flashing calibrations changes and not rewriting the entire PCM its would not affect it? But I really have no clue.

Oh and I would not go by that oil change monitor. Starting in 2000 they raised the limit to 15K at optimal driving conditions. Another one of GM's stupid ideas, Kinda like the "lubed-for-life" chassis parts, "filled-for-life" Transmission and the 100,000 mile spark plug.

Changing the oil is such an important thing that I can't figure out why you'd trust it to the pcm or why you' d cut back on the frequency of oil changes. It can't save much money... not enough to justify maybe hurting your engine. Maybe I'm misreading your post.

To answer your question, no. Flashing the pcm does not reset your oil change light. I was wandering this too, so I checked. Mine came on at about 5000 miles and I had made about 10-15 flashed to the pcm with EFIlive.
