Well **** then. Simple things first. Have you posted on HPT forum yet? DO you have a license to download your friends file and save? (I know, it doesn't matter, you still wouldn't get the error) Is he 100000000% sure that pin 16 is HOT with 12 volts?

I mysteriously would get the same thing with my truck sometimes...rare, but sometimes. It has to be a crappy wire in my OBDII bundle. Hmmm...ignore the fuse comment and make sure that pin has 12 volts in it and doens't have a clump of mud stuck in there.

Have you tried just scanning?

it wont let me do anything. once i plug it into the diagnostic port, all the gauges go wack. the fuel reads 0, battery light, check engine light, and a few others start screwing up. like i said, it works perfect with my truck

nope, under the dash. The link I posted above has a front "picture" of the OBD II port under his dash. Make sure everybody on HPT knows your licensing status, the fuse isn't blown, and you haven't verified voltage on the obd pin yet.

***EDIT***

What mods has he done? Messed with electric wiring? Give the whole skinny.
