LMAO, never knew there were so many C&S truckers here, amazing!
Here's something else I noted over the last few years. When I go out on the scooter with friends everyone is smoking ciggerettes but around the track or even truck related social events few ever smoke. Weird.

usarmyman......... 8 years ago my life almost ended (dont mix THC, and halucinagens, and many many other things). one of my really really close friends helped me through the tough times. i'm like Bill, i love my life now rather than what it was.....
the group in college for the alcohol......man, they was some cool cats in that group that had helped me and others out.
i've lived many lives for a 26 year old but i'm in the best life right now.
(now i'm addicted to this damn site) but ya'll help me out

I love my life now without drugs. From where I was at to where I am now, is a complete 180. I wouldn't trade my life now for anything.
Again I just want to congratulate everyone on their sobriety, weather it's been 2 days or 20+ years. Every day is an accomplishment.

Laugh if you will, I have only been drunk once, and that cured me.
I was heavily addicted to caffiene. I drank well into the gallons everyday of whatever I could find, mostly Dr. Pepper. I started having lots of physical problems, the doctors didn't know what it was. I was gaining weight at an extremely rapid pace. I had a guy work with me for about a week (at the time I normally worked alone). He started watching how much I was drinking, over a liter a hour most days. After every service call, I would go get the largest drink I could and it would be gone by the next service call. I would generally run 12-16 service calls a day. That is just while I was working and he was with me, it was worse at home.
I decided to stop, I lost 40lbs within 4 weeks. You might think this is stupid, but I went though everything anyone on drugs or drinking would. I had a headache for those first 4 weeks, I had a constant tremor I couldn't control. Within the first few days, my body shut down, I couldn't hear or see for several hours until my body balanced itself out. It really freaked me out.
That was nearly 8 years ago, they have changed the taste of soft drinks so much, I don't care for the taste anymore.
I now live based on the belief I will have no addictions of any sort. An occasion shot of Jack and a good cigar is all. That's maybe every 4 or 5 years. The only way I will is if someone else buys, great way for me to control myself.

Why I started the thread...
I about died of shock that I actually went a week without a drink. This has been the first week of sobriety that I didn't make a point to be sober it just happened. Kind of a weird feeling since I have been drinking fairly heavily for 7 years now. I have been alcohol dry for maybe 20 days at most, but only due to other medications.
I did go to the bar last night and had a few to many with friends, which is fine for me. I'm very happy I went a week between cravings. In the end I cleaned up a bit, but still have my weaknesses. I have a very hard time when I get put on antibiotics and force myself to be sober. I have always retained my ability to control myself, but I am very borderline.
My newest hobby has been home brewing and it has helped. I no longer keep 30packs in the fridge. I don't sit and drink can after can. I only put so much home brew in the fridge at once and once its gone its gone. I am willing to wait for a beer to finish and if its not ready it keeps me from drinking it!

A lot of great stories in here! Alcohol really affects everyone different. For those of you who couldn't control their lifestyle with alcohol in it and completely got away from it, I have the utmost respect for you guys! Far too many people can't control it and let it get the best of them. There are better addictions out there, like making things with wheels go faster!

congrats man, i dont have any addictions except food haha but i have had friends that couldnt see they had a problem and it ruined them and our friendship as well. anyone who says its easy is lying and just because we may not have the same problems doesnt mean its stupid or any less human than the problems we have.

I haven't quite figured out how people fall into addiction. I've tried a few times, but it hasn't worked.
My 21st birthday is July 4th though. I'll go to an AA meeting instead of getting hammered on 6th street.
