Congratulations, 8 years is quite an accomplishment. Don't feel bad, I have been to worse, and they really do help if you get in a good group.

We can make fun but it's a serious topic and I'm sure many won't speak up if not treated as such. I find life today (without mind altering substances) much more rewarding. Every morning when I get in my truck I think about how many dents it would have (or not even have it) if I was still drinking.

Good for you Nate, a week is a huge accomplishment!! Seriously, I could never tie 2 days together before I made the decision to try something different.

There is a lot of help on here if you want it, you just have to want it is all!

That is a date you will never for get Bill, if I could go that long I would consider myself well accomplished. You are correct, this is a very serious topic. Addiction is not something to joke about. And a lot of people don't understand that, and I am glad. That means that they haven't had to go through it.

I have been sober from drugs since September 17, 2005. That's just under 4 years. Man, it has been a long time. I will be the first to tell you that I LOVE drugs and I LOVE to get high. But with all good things, there is a price to pay. And that price far out weighs and high, or buzz in the end.
I do still drink. Sometimes I drink more than I should. But I have found that when I see myself getting to bad I can cut myself back. I have been sober off of alcohol since November of 08, when I was on R&R. I will continue to drink, and I hope that it doesn't turn into a problem.

For most of us it's not the drug or bottle but rather the high...we tend to trade one weapon of choice for another. I know that if I use dope or drink i will fall back into that lifestyle so i choose to abstain from all. I know people who can have A beer and leave it on the table with 2 sips left in it...I NEVER can do that, what a waste

i could never do that either, i would always try to drink until there was nothing left to drink, not only was that expensive it got me put in jail. now im paying about $600/mo in fees, fines and payments to stay out of jail plus i have to pay almost $1100/yr for 3 years to keep my drivers license.

Seriously, I am lucky enough to not have that battle to fight. I fight with cigarettes, but that doesn't have the potential to become destructive to a lifestyle in the same ways booze and drugs do.

usarmyman......... 8 years ago my life almost ended (dont mix THC, and halucinagens, and many many other things). one of my really really close friends helped me through the tough times. i'm like Bill, i love my life now rather than what it was.....

the group in college for the alcohol......man, they was some cool cats in that group that had helped me and others out.

i've lived many lives for a 26 year old but i'm in the best life right now.

(now i'm addicted to this damn site) but ya'll help me out

I haven't been 'drunk' in ~1.5 years. Sipped a few beers every now and again but only with a meal or on a hot summers day, never been more then 2 in a day. It was a great feelnig the day I decided to stop drinking. I would get trashed thursday after work, friday night, saturday night, sunday night. I worked afternoons so I'd jus punish myself. Found better things to live for. One of the greatest decisions I've ever made.

That is a good point, but I know that for some people that it is a true addiction, they can't help it.. i can choose to let it go if I truly have the desire to.. Hell I have done a few diff drugs in my life, am not ashamed of it at all, was just to do it, see what it was about, but never choose to do them again, I know some people one time and they are hooked... I like my boozed but could step back if needed. I just need a release, that works for me.. It doesn't get me down and depressed, all the mumbo but damn I do feel like **** in the morning... And for the guys that choose the sober road, that is awsome for you.. we all make our own choices

Valentine's Day 1987.....bought a girl a ring that day, then realized later that night that I didn't even like her. Scared Straight!
