Default What kind of sport bike should I get?

Im lookin for something in the 650 range for about 4-5 grand. After the beginning of the year and I get settled back down in Texas Im going to get one. The 418 in the Z71 is not going to be a workign situation to drive all day everyday so I am going to need alternate transportation. I like the GSXR's they look sweet and so do the CBR's. Post up if you know anything about them or have any recommendations. I dont know which ones are the best/fastest and all that. Im not really worried about top speed and all that I want something that will get up and haul *** 0-100 and thats it. Im not looking for all out performacnce Im looking for comfortability and reliability. No litre bikes or 750s just 600-650s. Opinions and experiences are welcome.

Gixxer (GSX-R) 600 or 750 or I hear the R6's are pretty good...But you should be able to find a used Gixxer for cheap cause they're all over the place and pretty popular...Zed

1st thing I recommend to all new riders, go out and buy "The Twist of the Wrist" Video by Kieth Code. Watch it, then go out and buy a beginner bike, not a GSXR600, R6, CBR600, or ZX6R.

What did I do when I was 16yrs old? I bought a Ninja600 sport bike, but I watched "Twist of the Wrist" and was interested in learning how to ride well, AND look cool.

So twist of the wrist is video to learn how to ride or what? I plan on going to the local community college and taking the motorcycle course to learn the basics from them not just my illegal riding on my buddies bikes. Im not going to have the money to buy a "beginner" bike then move up I need to get something decent to begin with. Thats why Im going to get one that is a year or two old to cut down on cost some but have something I will be able to enjoy for a while and not outgrow it in a couple of months.

Yes, take the course, AND watch the video. LOL, No one ever listens to the beginner bike advice Pick the one you get the best deal on, they are all good bikes

Ok so Im going to buy used bike. What should I look out for as far as scamms POS's and such. Not too schooled on what is bad and what is good. Also what kind of prices am I looking at for a good 20,000 ish mile. I looked on ebay and found a few I like and have a general idea of what its going to cost. Is there anything I should do to the bike maintenance wise as soon as I get the bike besides probably a brake job, fluid change, maybe sprockets and chain. As you can tell I dont know too much about them I have just ridden them. LOL I like the R6's too they are nice. Is there on e that is more comfortable than the other. Im 6 foot and weigh abotu 175 so is there one out there that will "fit" me better than the others. Just trying see what everyones personally opinion is on this. I dont want to be all bent over on the bike. I know alot of the comfort part is going to have to be me jsut getting on one and trying it out. The gsxr that I road felt pretty good I want to really try a CBR or the R6. Thanks for the help Grippy

I know what oyu mean about the beginner bike thing. I think its an ego thing or something plus hell if you cant tell by what Im doing to my truck I dont like to have a slow vehicle.
