In my ever changing life, I was going to trade for a 6.0L/4L80E to go into my suburban. That deal fell through. So I was going to cam my 5.3L. I held off on ordering the cam from stock48 because a friend of mine purchased 9 gmt-800 trucks, one gmt-900, and a 03 Z06 vette for parts. No L33's popped up so I contacted stock48 to order my cam again.
Before I get the response from stock48, another friend with a salvage yard calls and says he got a 06 2500 6.0L/4L80e wants to trade. So back to waiting, looks like I might have to sell off the parts for the 5.3L and 4l60e that I have purchased.
I am going to give him a few days to come through on the 6.0L, then moving forward with the 5.3L regardless of what else pops up.
This is confusing. The 5.3L is already torn down and the heads are leaving for the machine shop.

LOL decisions decisions. I would try to get the 6.0/80 combo. If not the 5.3 is a stout piece. Your buddy wouldn't happen to have any nice cloth manual seats, a manual window regulator(driver) would he

I will ask about the regulator, but I think all the trucks were full power trucks.

I really want the 4L80E more then anything else. I was already planning to swap to hydroboost. I am just worried about kill a transmission with a good load. It isn't uncommon to find 10-12,000 lbs behind my truck.

WELL, the 4L80E turned out to be a 2wd. So that will be a no go. Should know something on the motor itself tomorrow.
At least I can still use all the 60E parts I bought.

Isnt the only difference between a 2wd and 4wd the tailshaft? So couldnt you just put a 4wd tailshaft on it and go? The strength with the loads you say youre gonna be hauling would be well worth the effort to me

I went out to look at the truck, MAN IT IS DEAD. It ate a guard rail and ate it hard. The guard rail went straight in and sheered the a/c compressor off the engine, bosses and all. The block appears to be fine otherwise. It still has oil in it, and looks super clean. The truck itself is impressively clean despite being thoroughly dead.
I am pretty certain that I will be getting the 6.0L tomorrow.

Good luck on the engine bud, dont settle for anything you dont want though, if you know your going to be towing, get an 80e and save your self time and headache and money and grey hairs and beating your head against the wall and kick ing your dog and ......... You get the picture LOL!
