Speedo stopped reading all of a sudden...

Default Speedo stopped reading all of a sudden...

the speedo just stopped working in my dads 04 avalanche....anyone have any ideas?

it's a known problem with 03/04 clusters, they malfunction.

Best guess would be the stepper motor. The motor in the cluster that the needle is attached to. I have 3 spares in the tool box. Already replaced 2. Speedo and tach died on mine. They never completely stopped, just erratic and not returning to 0.

Did he not receive the letter in the mail about an extended warranty on those? Mines an 03 and I received one within a few months after purchasing it last year.

I doubt he ever got the letter.. He bought it from my grandfather about 2 or 3 years ago. It just dropped to like 10 mph when he was driving down road at like 50. How much is the fix

how many miles are on it? check with your dealer. it may be free. if not used ones are 75 to 200 bucks. ebay is your friend.

70k miles is the warranty limit.
It'll probably cost a couple hundred for the dealer to do it and install. Or if you are any good with your hands, you can just buy new stepper motors and change them yourself.
