anyone do this for a living or any entry level rig jobs? may have an opportunity to get into this with a major company but know nothing of the job. im 24, not married or have any kids so i dont think the time away will be a problem. what can be expected of this position and any other info you might have. currently employed but its definitley not where i want to be and with this the starting salary and opportunity seems to be pretty good

My buddy is a derreckhand on the rigs North Dakota, I'm assuming this is the same type of position your referring to. Derrick hand - YouTube. Not him but he does the same thing. Pay is great, but the work is hard. His hours are pretty decent at the company he's at, but I've had other friends go out and have to work 80 hours a week, 7 days a week. I'm thinking about going out there to work for a summer to work. Being young and not tied down with family I would give it a shot if you don't have a whole lot to lose in case you absolutely hate it.

Roustabouted for 7 years, better than Rig IMO. Less money but job is easier and home everynight. But neither have job security, that's why I become a Pumper. Office work with rig pay.

Make the money while it's there! If you can manage money good go for it. You're not married and no kids. Take all that money you make and save it up and spend a little on yourself. Hours are long but you'll get used too it.

Kinda what iv been thinking. I usually work 10 hours on night shift now. Being young and if I have opportunity it might be a good chance that I could really benifit from in a few years. Just don't know what exactly is involved in the job. Kinda what I'm looking for

Roustabouts are like the do it alls in the field. You coulkd be putting a fence up, setting up tanks, repairs in a gas plant, repairing leaks, building lease roads, painting etc etc there;s never no telling. Some companys are dedicated to a certain job or specialty etc. Rig work is a little harder especially being the "worm" you're gonna catch all the **** and the bottom of the pole position... Then there's the rig move
hahahashaha well if you get the position on a rig you'll understand. I've been around it since 03 and worked everywhere, I've got the cush job now working at a gas plant as a operator so it's paid off in the long run. My buddy just moved down from Idaho and is working in south texas with a frac company hella hours and big $$$$$$$ go for it man, you're the perfect candidate for it.

My dad work his way up from a roustabout to Area rig manager for Transocean Offshore in Brazil. He made over 200k a year. He had to bust his *** to get there but there is a killing to be made on the drilling side of the oilfield.
