Possible job change in this economy (Would you?)
#1
I've worked in the grocery business for about 7 years now. I'm an Assistant Manager, I work around 50 hrs a week on salary pay and have decent benefits. My schedule is nights and weekends every week.
I have a chance to change companies and job aspect all together and work for a company cleaning carpets, upholstery, tile floors, and h-vac systems. Company mostly works off of contract work but does a lot of residential work also. This company has the same benefits as current job, I would be working less hours, making at least $200 more a week, getting off by 5 everyday and off weekends and Holidays. In my book it sounds almost to good to be true. I'm scared to take the jump into this company due to the economy and don't know how long i would have work, the owner says its a full time job. I have a mortgage and car notes etc. I know no one but me can make the decision and am very thankful that I can even have the chance to have the option in this economy. Is there anyone else on here that works for a carpet cleaning company? What would you do in my situation, would you stay put in at the grocery store or take the chance with the new job? Thanks to any and everyone that comments cause i've been contemplating this for about two weeks and i'm drivng myself crazy lol

if i had a chance to make alot more money and keep my benefits i would take it. with that said i chased down more money a couple years ago and got laid off 5 months later, but thats a choice you have to make.

its a risk if you take it and its not as good as you pictured you will regret it, if you dont take it than you might regret it its all up to you just remember whats too good to be true is usually TOO GOOD to be true theres always a catch

What would you do with the extra $200 a week? If you would spend it, I wouldn't change jobs. If you would save it, I probably still wouldn't change jobs. $200 more a week for a contract job in this current situation isn't worth it.
Has he been busy in the last few years? Do you know any of the guys that currently work for him well enough to ask them how they think the business is doing?

The company has been in business for five years, The owner says he has enough work to keep his employees busy to give them full time jobs. He just bought all new trucks and equipment.

talk it out with your current boss. leave on good terms and if the new job falls through go back. one thing about the grocery business is people MUST eat. no matter how bad the economy gets, theres no way around buying food. unless you live in louisiana. then roadkill is considered a meal lol J/K
