Possible job change in this economy (Would you?)
#23
The grocery chain I work for only has five stores. It is a local city chain. It is very hard to move up in rank. It usually takes someone getting fired or someone retiring to move up. As far as responsibility, I have lots of that. I really feel in some areas my store manager is holding me back for that reason because he knows his store is in good hands when he leaves for the day. The way I see it if i stay put, I have at least 10 yrs at my store before I move up unless some gets fired or quits. The owner has mentioned moving me but it got swept under the rug when our store started making more money.
I have thoroughly read all the advice you guys have given me so far and its really helped me put it into perspective. I'm just gonna stay put for the job security reason. My hours suck but I've delt with it this long, I will just continue to deal with it. Thanks for all who shared their input.

Well they just opened the fifth store at the end of last year, I did just get back from a mgmt course they wanted me to go to. I'm guessing there is something planned for me in their minds.

So ask them what their plans are? They'll at least know that you're being career minded.
