Default Fire Pit Design

I'm having a pool built right now and we are going to have a natural gas fire pit built as well. The builder does not supply the insert pan or the burner. After doing a little surfing I'm learning that this will be quiet pricy for the size that we want. I have the equipment and the skills to build it myself, but just not sure about the burner details (holes/jet size and spacing). Any help is appreciated.

The colored broken glass looks cool, I know we set the 5/8" s/s tubing 1" below the surface of the glass (whick was 2" deep) and the rest was sand

I just added Propane pipe burners to my firebox on my smoker. I used one inch pipe with slits cut in it. Pointed the slits down so the fire would roll up from underneath. I used and wire welding gun tip to control the propane into the pipe. Works pretty good and with some trial and error I about have it right. Ill attach a pic that I used for reference when I started mine. But mind you this was set up for propane. I dont know how natural gas would burn in relation.

It will be purely a gas fire pit, with glass or lava rock base.

I will. I've got a game plan and started today. I'm making the insert out out 1/8" stainless steel with 2x2 stainless angle around the perimeter. This is essentially just a tray to hold the burner, lava rocks and logs.
