ford is taking steps in the right direction i believe. but i agree with the earlier comment...all these tests were done by ford so far. i want to see what car and driver or a similar magazine does in a top truck shootout or something

I am considering the ecoboost if i stay in a half ton later this year. I like the way you can get a real 6.5' short bed with the crew cab on the fords. Their new powertrains are looking better than the current year gm trucks as far as power goes. A 5.3L may get similar fuel mileage, but no where near 420 lb. ft. torque stock and at such a low rpm. I love the gm powertrains, but other than the 6.2L and the duramax$$$ there just is not any serious power available (im only talking stock) When I get my current 07 5.3L sold, I will be seriously looking at the ecoboost. If this engine works out for Ford, I would like to see them try a similar gas engine design for the superduty. Just make it a twin turbo V8. This would be a less expensive upgrade than the epa restricted diesels.

I thought all 4.8's were still getting the 4L60e??????
Regardless. I have been interested in the Eco-boost and even been considering it for my next truck. However my recent bout with the infamous Power-Stroke 6.0 and hearing horror stories about its 6.4 twin turbo diesel predecessor has me a bit nervous and skeptical about buying something un-tried and un-tested from Ford anytime soon.
The good ole Chevy small block V8 might make the power that some of these new ford engines do or have the cutting edge technology, but at least they are proven through the years and we all know what they are capable of.
I'll wait to see how the Eco-Boost performs in the real world before making any real decisions on it.

I find it funny that most people that bash this new engine because of the turbos, saying that turbos dont belong in a truck, then turn and recommend a turbo diesel duramax..... Hmmmmm, is it because its gas? Trucks have used turbos for yeeaaarss! Just my observation
