Default Air Compressor Recommendations?

Thinking about asking the wife for an air compressor for Christmas on a 200-300 dollar budget for general use around the house and working on my truck. Does anyone here have any recommendations? Was thinking about going with one of the Craftsman models from Sears. I already did a search and not much info, and would have posted in the tools section but that section is a ghost town. Thanks

I think when I bought it they had some sort of special going on so it was the compressor for 200, and included an impact, and air ratchet.

I am also looking at the DEWALT D55168 15-Gal. Portable Electric Air Compressor, it is 389.00 a little over budget but has 26 five star ratings on the HD website. People say they have had zero problems and it runs stronger than compressors twice the size. I start looking at tools and want them all, I could spend my salary for the year if I didnt have to eat or have a roof over my head.

My son has that 26 gallon X 1 1/2-hp Craftsman and it's a good piece. Somebody else liked it so much that they stole it out of his garage! He went right back to Sears and bought another one just like it.
I've got an old vertical 50 gallon/5-hp Campbell Hausfeld that I bought over 20 years ago
when we built his first car. It gives all the air I could ever use. Check around on craigslist, I bet you could pick something up for cheap.

Do go toooo small on the air compressor or you will kick yourself everytime your sitting with an impact or any other air tool waiting for air to build up again.

That sucks, I hate thieves, things have gotten so bad around here that I will purposely leave the garage door open as I wait with my 12 gauge just sitting there for an hour or two. I have checked CL, there is so much I'm unfamiliar with and most people are only taking 25% off the original price on AC that are 4 or more years old...I'll keep looking
