Default Good ol 5.3?

I dont know if this is the right place for this but it was my best guess..

when i do my 6.0 swap ill have a perfect good 5.3 sitting there and i was wondering if i could slap that into a sand rail, would it be enough power, would it be worth it, what all would i need, i think youll kinda get the idea of what im asking feel free to throw anything and everything at me

That's exactly what I wanted to do with my old 5.3 when I pulled it! If you're doing a rear-engine setup in a sand rail you'll need to have a built trans from a VW bus put in, or find a company that builds sand rail trannies. They are expensive as hell!! Make sure you don't have a heart attack when you see the prices. The LS1 is a popular engine for the larger sand rails though, so you should be able to find custom engine harnesses and kits to bolt up a non-GM tranny to it fairly easily.

It'll be tough, you'll probably need a 2D depending on how much that 5.3 is cranking out and if you are doing a 4 seater or 2 seater. You need to visit the guys and gals over on glamis dunes. Glamis Forum

I can tell you i'm building a car right now and I'll have every bit of 40K in it when it's all said and done. The trans was over 3K but I'm also running a LS2 crankin out over 500 HP.

i dont plan to spend anywhere near that, id like a 4 seater but i could live with a 2 seater i can do every bit of the labor myself and i have all the tools and machines to do everything i think my biggest strugle would be not having blueprints or one to look at to copy so itd all have to come from questions pictures and my brain. what are the most costly parts of a rail?
