Default Gauge Cluster Question

i have a 2006 1500hd LT2 no steering wheel controls...my cluster has just the basic reading trip and range and milage..do i need to have the steering wheels controls to have it read the MGP or can i just get another cluster from like a SS and put in it and it will tell me that info...

Its not the cluster, its the programing and buttons that you need...

I believe you have to get the BCM reprogramed to activate the controls...

No the gauge cluster itself will work fine, I just installed a SS cluster in my truck. Basically for the look and tranny temp gauge. but the extra stuff like MPG, Range, etc comes from the programing in the BCM..

hmmm just found something called a scangauge that does it...so i wont have to change anything out..

those scan gauges are pretty cool and only 150-180 on ebay. Someone makes a pod that goes right behind your steering wheel.

really i will have to look for that pod that would look nicer than just the thing sitting there.i ordered it yesterday from amazon for 159.99 free shipping..
