Default Factory CD player giving "err"

So...this all started after I went to the track. I was playing a CD in the waiting lane but turned it off or turned the volume all the way down (can't remember).....anyways after the run the cd player said "Err" and ejected the disk. Now 90% of the time I stick a CD in it says "err" and spits it out. I noticed a brand new CD I burned that I managed to get it to play came out all scratched up? Any thoughts? I'm thinking some sort of internal damage happened on launch at the track. I know it sounds silly, but it's all I can come up with.

Whatever came from the factory.

Maybe I should just chalk it up to death due to old age.

Yea, they wear out just like anything...if you want to keep the stock head unit for asthetic reasons or just to keep it stock (I love the way the factory head unit fits our dashes, even the best aftermarkets look like add ons), find a place locally that repairs and refurbishes GM and ACDelco electronics...you might pay a little more than you'd expect, but they'll usually do a good job of getting your factory gear back up and running.

Or you could always take your chances with ebay and end up with another old unit that may or may not work

Since it needs repair, you could try one of those cd cleaners first...you never know, it may work...

I've had very good luck in the past with used OEM parts from quality used part sellers.

How does it work with Passlock though if I were to put in a different OEM head unit?

As long as the new/used/refurbished unit is reset, you can just plug it in, then enter your code. If it's a used unit that still has the old code in it, you'll have to go to the dealer and spend some dough to get it reset.

Errrr body in da club getnn' tipsy.

That sucks but if your new CDs are coming out scrached up it could be that something fell out of the alignment tracks. Probably just worn out. You could get it fixed but like budhayes said you could pay quite a bit to get that done. Mine is starting to act up but I have a headunit already lined up ready to be installed. Im just mainly waiting on getting a new set of components to put up front.
