Default Bass Question

Can anybody explain to me why my bass hits so much harder when my passenger door is open? they're behind my seat, amp and subs in sig, in a custom box. Thanks

i think all single cabs do that without a ported box, mine does with the window down, its gotta be cab airspace

its all about the cabin gain...our cabs are too small to fit the whole wavelength inside or something like that so with the windows up i would imagine some waves are folded back on top of each other and cancel out... just a thought...

notice also that the house 3 or 4 houses down is the one that calls the police on you for neighborhood distrubance not the house right next to you........its all about sound waves, they must have room to develope to reach their peak......think of it this way, at the beach waves coming farther from shore pick up speed and are bigger once they reach the beach, waves that start 10 or 20 feet from the beach arent near as big because they dont have enough space to reach their peak.......when you open the door you are allowing your sound waves to reach their peak because they can now travel a longer distance than if the door is closed and the windows up.....

not really. i have had both ported and sealed (currently have sealed) and can tell you than in a reg. cab truck there is not much difference in spl (sound pressure level). you will technically hit a higher db in a tuned ported box than a sealed box you just dont notice the difference in a reg. cab truck b/c the sound waves have no room to produce.......exampl: my buddy has one rockford P3 12" sub in a ported box in his infinity suv, he can rattle bottles off the roof and his rearview mirror shakes so hard it wont stay up, it SOUNDS 3 times as loud as mine. In my reg. cab truck i have 2 Alpine type R 12" in a custom sealed box, nothing shakes on my truck and my rear view mirror barely vibrates (b/c the sound waves dont have as much room to produce in a reg. cab truck as they do in a suv). went to the audio shop and i hit 146 db and he hit 133 db.....so its not always how loud it is especially in a reg. cab truck......

That's true, when my sub hits in my room it doesn't vibrate the window that it's right next to but it vibrates the window in my bathroom which is at the other corner of my room...
