Dude, you will love the south. It is so diffrent from every where else. Like it was said befor, it is humid on the coast and everywhere else pretty much it is just when it rains. The farther east you go the more humid. we got hunting, fishing, camping, off roading, boating, the list goes on and on. We got a lot of big cities, but the country is never to far away if you want to get away. Personaly if I had it my way, I would never leave the country. There are to many people in the city for me, and people **** me off. But the south is great.
Oh, yeah, one more thing. Texas A&M sucks!! LOL j/k

I'm from American Samoa and lived in Honolulu....So it's hard to say I like Houston more than previously places I lived lol.
It's growing on me though, I'll admit that. Everyone pretty much covered the goods and bads....Real estate is pretty cheap, southern hospitality is always a nice thing, but the traffic BLOWS lol.

I grew up in east Texas and Houston. I moved to Dallas in '98. Houston is HUMID as hell. Dallas can still get hot and humid but not near as bad. We usually get one or two ice / snow storms every winter. Only lasts a couple of days at the most. Weather was in the 40's last weekend, gonna be in the 70's tomorrow WTF. Winter is really pretty mild. Weather in San Antonio is pretty nice as well. Mild winters and not quite as humid. Every city in Texas is pretty different really. I'd say Austin is the most laid back. I've had some good times in pretty much every city here.
Comparing Houston to Dallas: Both are busy as hell. Traffic sucks in both. I'd say Dallas is a little cleaner, but the people are more up tight. (I'll probably always consider Houston home)
Hey, you already drive a badass chevy truck so you'll fit right in.
Oh yeah, East Texas has THE BEST lookin women and alot of them. Straight up country girls too.

well from the north LA perspective...DONT LIVE HERE, GO FARTHER SOUTH. we have do industry, country living with cities nearby, but damn this place is boring as hell.....if i was in your position i would check out lake charles, lafayette, houston suburbs but not the city (for traffic reasons), and anywhere in between.....i love the south and wouldnt go north unless you paid be big. (7 figures, starting no less than with a 2).....great food, beautiful women, lots to do, good hunting/fishing, friendly people...nuff said. i say find a job you like and go from there....but thats just my .02

I'll be done with grad school in May, and I'm going to entertain the option of relocating when I get my next job. I've always been somewhat intrigued with the thought of living in Texas or in the south, but I've never been before and I'm not at all familiar with any of it.
So....tell me about the south. Tell me about Texas. Where do you live, where would you live, what would you tell someone who has never visited before about the areas, the people, etc etc. Basically, give me a quick lesson about the different areas, demographics, job market, weather, real estate market condition, entertainment, geography, types of towns and cities...whatever you think would be beneficial to know.

Well take it from me a person that moved to S.E.Texas from phoenix in 1991 stay where your at this place is filled with mold, rain out the ***, hot and humid most of the year. The only reason I stay is my kids and school, plus I took construction as a job and the market down here is great.

Anyway, I think I need to visit a few of these places to get a feel for what the areas are like. I'm also considering Colorado, and maybe up into Idaho or Montana. Hmmm....too many choices, and it doesn't help that I haven't been to a lot of these places I'm considering.

Haha that's the first negative thing I've heard. I've been wondering how humid everyone considers to be "not bad". That's one good thing about the AZ summers, it's generally very dry. You said SE Texas, what city?
