Poor fuel quality.

So I live up in the great boring state of South Dakota thanks to the Air Force. I will hopefully be leaving in the next year for Dallas but for now I seem to have a problem. I have been running a 91 BBP tune and filling up at any of the 3 gas stations in town that carry 91 no ethanol (Phillips 66, Flying J, and loaf and jug) a few months ago I sent in some data and he noticed some Knock activity and told me to try and change stations. I did and it cleared up I will no longer fill up from Phillips 66. Just last week sent in more data to be checked after getting my rear end replaced by the dealer and They said the fuel quality looks very poor and asked if it was a stale tank. But after I picked the truck up front the dealer it had less then a quarter tank and I promptly Filled it with 91 no ethanol at the local Loaf and Jug. So it shoud be fresh gas right?
Im going to check the fuel filter tonight maybe but I changed it 3kmiles ago.
I know I'm not boosteed yet or pushing high compresion so its not a huge deal but it still annoys me to pay extra for "quality" fuel thats garbage.
Am I missing somthing?

I know most of the fuel will all be from the same refinery but that doesnt mean that all stations have equally clean tanks or as fresh of gas.
I guess the only reason I havent wanted to run 91 with 10% is because I've heard its not as good or can be hard during -30degree cold starts. But I havent even seen proof of it.
I would like to run Shell or BP but we dont have ether of those up here so kinda SOL.
I have noticed back fires and a higher idle apon cold starts with this "bad" tank of gas so I won't be going back to that gas station.

I guess I will start running the ethanol stuff and ill probably try to closest mobile wich is about 15mins away (I live about 10mins from town) unfortunantely the Sinclair stations are even farther but we will see after this tank ill see what BBP says about it.

I'm guessing that your tuner is seeing a lot of knock retard. Doesn't sound like the fuel is your problem as fuel source has not made a difference. More likely a mechanical or tuning issue. Should be some clues in the logs. That said, all of our fuel up here in Manitoba is E10 and we have no problems with it even in -40* winter weather.

Well the first time it happened was months ago and many tanks ago. I would assume that BBP wouldnt have a bad tuning issue but I could be wrong. I will probably fill up tomorrow with some mobil 91 with the E10 and see if it goes away and feels a little less sluggish.
Thanks for the help guys!
