Tell me about the south

You probablly do not want to come to NW Florida as there is not much industry at all here. If I could, I would move back to Coastal Mississippi in a heartbeat. I loved it there. Being an IE there are lot of opportunities for you there from companies such as Cheveron, Northorp Grumman, BP, Dow and Dupont. I used to work at NG and have a lot of IE contacts there if you are interested in Shipbuilding/Production.

In truth I'm sure like every town there are good and bad parts, I'm think I just couldn't get myself out of the bad ones.

Though I didn't marry a woman from Lafayette to Opelousas, there is a LOT of "stallions" in that area.
I can't speak volumes about TX lifestyle, as I'm quite sure it's changed since I lived in Austin in '99. When I was there, the heat wasn't the HEAT I was used to growing up in LA. 110 DegF in Austin felt like 97 DegF in New Orleans, and I used to jog 2 miles after work everyday in both areas. Nightlife was AWESOME in Austin, plus it's a college town.
Now... we could talk ALL DAY about life in LA. Everything BradS mentioned, I agree with (no need to repost).
With the oil & gas industry on the up&up, job market has definitely picked up. Someone mentioned Fluor earlier. I'll say that Fluor-Houston has a ton of work coming from LA.
With an IE degree, I'd assume you're looking to get into manufacturing. P&G has a plant in LA. LA also has sugar plants in the River Parish area. I don't know your area of interest, but those are just a few things.Real Estate values have gone up, but are sloping downward (gradually). Obviously, that was a boom from Katrina & Rita (dem beeyotches).

I think I need to come visit the area sometime soon. Maybe I'll hit some of you up when I decide to come out.
