Tell me about the south

Man once you come to the south you will not go back. The winters are nice and very little snow. The cost of living is low. The best thing is the women. Even a fred flinstone look a like like me can marry a hot girl! People are nice and friendly and there is usually a beach with in 3 hours!

Dallas and Houston traffic are HELL. If you're downtown you'll spend up to 2 hours sitting in traffic.
Austin is getting bad but isn't nearly as bad as those two
San Antonio isn't bad but it is a town filled by idiots, illegals and it doesn't help that the people who designed the road system there much have been half retarded.
If you want to live downtown I would say Austin is one of the coolest downtowns I've ever visited. The night life is amazing, low crime, and everything is pretty laid back.
Between Houston and Dallas I would rather live in Houston just because it's close to the water. However, Houston is humid is ****(obviously).
Stay away from west Texas. I lived there for a year and it's filled with white trash, bible thumpers, and idiots. It's quiet and the hunting is good, but other than that it's a **** hole.
North Texas is nothing special. Not big not small and pretty quiet.
Never really lived in north east Texas so I can't tell you much about it.

I know the Dallas/Fort Worth area is not that humid, just hot. IMO I would never work in the Dallas area, but that is were the money is. I just can't stand to sit in traffic, but that is just me.... I live on the south side of fort worth. It is nice here, close to the country, which is where me and my GF want to build when we get married. House is cheap here in my area since the realestate crisis they have going on, you could pick up a brand new house for dirt cheap, at least that is what i did!!!! So your and IE with an MBA, wanna shoot me your resume and I can see what we have available up at my work, (You like military aircraft?). How many years experience do you have?
Oh and the chicks here are pretty damn Hot as well!!!!

I've been there quite a few times and have alot of friends out there and if you find the right areas you'll forget your even in the south. Dallas is nice to live in and you can get alot for your money. Stay away from the center of Houston and especially the refineries, other than that houston's good. Chorpus Christie has some nice beaches and nice living areas, but you do kinda feel removed from the big picture (if that makes sense). Stay away from Beaumont whatever you do! New Orleans isn't a nice place to live as much as it is a nice place to visit. Alabama is fun if you don't like busy cities with all the latest greatest and newest in fashion, etc...

for the industry, houston has alot more to offer, handsdown, houston has grown a whole lot in the last 6yrs, that its unbelievable, and the house market is decent.... plus it has one of the best tracks around!!! but yes it is hot and humid in the summer but what the hell.... dallas is good, but they have too many cold days not to mention rainy cold days!!! alot of ice with a hilly city dont go to well, so your goat will be in the garage and you be using the z71 more in the winter... I hear good things about Austin, but I believe the housing market and way expensive there?

well, not much in the area over here for Nuclear, but Exxon has a huge Refinery and Chemical plant next door to each other. We have some nice state parks and such for camping. Humidity is a way of life, but I haven't seen snow accumulation since the third grade (late 80's).

I have lived in Houston, Dallas, Memphis, Atlanta, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and some small towns in between. Lafayette, Louisiana is by far my favorits place to live. Im 2-1/2 hrs from New Orleans, 3 Hrs from Houston just a couple of hours from the gulf (Great fishing) I can leave my house and be in the woods (or swamp) in 20 mins.
Cost of living is cheap compared to most places.
People are great
Traffic isnt bad
Its a college town with big city ammenities (Yes that means lots of hot cajun women)
Lots of Oilfield work
Real Estate is dropping fast right now.
