Default lakes in Florida?

Anyone here from florida? I just took a family vacation to disney, and noticed that florida has a **** load of lakes/ponds, but what i am curious about that when we were inroute from the airport to the resort, every little pond/lake on the side of the road was fenced in, why? Also noticed that every house that had a pool, the.pool itself was fenced/screened in also? Why? Just curious to know since we dont see that kind of stuff in texas....

The screens around the pools are to keep bugs, esp. skeeters away.

yep its for Gators. I am from just South of Gainesville and ive seen Gators crossing the road. The gates/fences also deter tourists and tards from trying to get a real life experience with the wildlife.

Depending on the size of the fenced in area, it may have been a retention pond. FDEP has strick standards for storm water runoff and any FDOT owned retention area is fenced in for libility reasons. The screened in pools are to keep bugs/wildlife from ruining your outing. You mainly only see those in central/south FL though. Some of the homes here in northwest Fl that are on golf courses have screened in pools/patios to keep them safe from stray *****.

I think its the law also. May be wrong. If you have a pool you either have to fence your property or the pool itself.
