The gm version of the pump alignment tool for the 6l80 is metal ring that has a step on one side to fit over the lip of the conterter housing and center the pump, using the bolt in the side of it.... I have been able to bolt the pump down before forgetting about the alignment tool, and it was damn near centered, hardly moved when i put the alignment tool on it! if they had put another dowel in the pump it probably wouldnt have been an issue never understood the point of one locator dowel...

Yeah I would rather have the snap ring pliers over that tool being that the worm clamp works perfect for me.

About the snap ring, everything i see says 9:00 from bottom of case, my trans the snap ring was at 12:00. did they change it from early to late production??

According to the assembly instructions in SI the proper position is the 9:00 position....

Anyone who is interested, 24248008 is the part number for the complete friction module for the 6l80, does not come with any steels just fiber clutches...
