Default Tire size ? and Drop ?

Ok. I wanna throw a 2/4 drop on my 99 Rado. The problem Im running into, and I have discussed it with a few others on the board, are my big tires! Ive got 285/50/20's on SS wheels. Overall height is 31.22 inches tall which Im sure isnt exact. Anybody run big tires like this with a 2/4 drop?? I saw an article in Truckin' magazine the other day that had an ECLB 03 Rado with a 2/4 drop and 22x10 Speed 6's with 295/45/22 BFG's. Overall height on those tires is 32.45 inches. From my observation they arent much bigger than my tires. SO, who thinks this will or wont work?

I have 275/45/20s on my ride and I think thats the biggest you can go with a 2/4 drop and not rub. You will need a smaller sidewall if you go with 22s.
If you go with wider tires, you may have issues with clearing the back, and you will rub up front.
My overall height is 29" if I remember correctly.

I dont want to get 22's. I was just using the truck that had 22's and a 2/4 drop on it as a refrence. Cause from what I can tell they fit ok and they are alot bigger than my 20's.

Heres a link to that truck.

a 265/50/20 is probably going to be the tallest tire you will be able to get on there without rubbing up front. i work at a tire place and this is the biggest tire we put on gm trucks with a 2/4 drop. anything bigger and we run into clearance issues. if you are willing to do some hammer work and trimming you can get the 285's to work but its a hassle.

I ran 295/45/20's and 265/50/20's with a Hotchkis drop on my truck without any rubbing or clearance problems.

That's the size I run on all four corners. No rubbing issues at all.

Those SS wheels probably dont have enough backspacing to run 285/50's on a 2/4. I have 275/45's on my Hotchkis 2/4 and it doesn't look like I could run any taller of a tire.

Well god dammit. I wish that my tires would magically change to 275/45's. How the hell did they cram 295/45/22's under that truck of Street Scenes that has a 2/4 drop?? Oh well, guess I will be dropless!

I'm sure those wheels have quite a bit more backspacing than your SS wheels do. (BTW, my truck is in that issue of Truckin')
