Headlight Mod for $1
#123
jeebas. i had a spare fuse box and decided to take it apart and see where/what wires makes the lows/fogs to kick off during hi... man there is a whole new world once you take it apart. im just gona have to take a picture. in a nut shell there are 2 layers with dozens of jumpers on each layer. i am going to talk to the electrician over at my old job (chevy dealership) and see if there is a mod we can do that doesnt involve cutting and keeps it relativly simple.
as far as the fog lights go, i know the wire that triggers the relay, and the output to fog lights so a simple relay with a ground and 12v source that would solve that part, but that means more clutter under the hood if it doesnt fit in the fuse box.
i will post up more info once i talk to the tech tomarrow.

this is a little off subject, but if I got some walmart fog lights, does the bracket that comes with them bolt up the the one under the bumper, or is all the mounting hardware already there too?
i haven't had my lower valance off yet to look and figured i'd ask.

It doesn't come with the brackets or anything. The stock foglights are bolted into 2 holes on each side of the bumper. 4 Total. The best thing to do would be to find someone on here that has taken off theirs, and buy them. Then you can order the OEM wiring harness for about 60 bucks. Then all you do is install the wiring (less than 15 minutes), and cut the holes in your valance. I used a dremmel motor tool. This way you can save the time and headache of installing a/m fogs. Plus you get the factory look with the bottom and all that good stuff. PM me if you have questions.

question for the wire electricians out there. what and how do signal wires work? im trying to get my fog lights to work on high when i want them to work - via factory switch. once i get that down, i will work on the high+lows. i have copied quite afew pages from GM's wire schematic book for my 01 silverado and havent figured out anymore than i already knew.
i am wondering if the .... il just have to ask the wire tech.. i missed him by a few minutes today. oh well

p.s same thing with the headlamp he headlamp dimmer switch high beam signal probally is the cause of the pain. i just realized under the fuse box (from looking at the schematic) there are 2 dimmer signals:
headlamp dimmer switch low beam signal
headlamp dimmer switch high beam signal
both have 2 wires on each connector. i wonder if that is the output??! i hate wireing.
peace

i did it a little different but i have pics..
Well i figured it out yesterday In the most easy form.
You need some Jumper wires 1N4004 12 volt relay and some shrink tubing.

Ok see in the pic the Red circles Those represent where the jumper wires go. On the high beam and low both its the bottom right on both, then on the fog relay its the top left.
Now notice the blue circles thats where the major numbers on the relay need to be on the outside. 8567 and 8566 i believe in big letters are the numbers..The three relays you are jumping will be facing the opposite way of the others.
that is all now when you drive around you can have the low beams with fogs or without. When you kick on the high beams no matter what Low kick and fogs kick on (even if you didnt have em on before).:head:

When i go from 85 to 85 i get all 4 all the time...the lows kick when the highs kick...am i missing something?

How would this work with the NNBS trucks? I want to make the fogs come on with the highs...the lows stay on from the factory.
To the guy wanting to put fogs in his truck: I got the factory kit from JP Customs for $260 and it comes with a new valance, fog lights, wiring harness, factory fog/cargo switch and all the necessary hardware. It took my cousin and I less than an hour to put them in.
