Default finally raced a HEMI

It's always funny how you get races when you are least expecting them. On my way back from my Fiancee's place yesterday afternoon I was sitting at a redlight when a black extended cab Ram pulls up next to me in the right lane. Immediately I notice the HEMI badge and aftermarket wheels. I didn't think anything of it, I've been next to some other Ram's before that never bit on the green light. Well this one was different, the light turned green and after rolling through the light he took off like a bat out hell. I noticed "Hypertech" "Magnaflow" and some other sticker on his back window so I'm assuming he had maybe a catback and hypertech programmer at least. We got the next light and I look over at the driver; he was in his "lean-back thugged out" gangsta position so I knew he was gonna go. He inched up as the other light turned yellow and when our light turned green we both punched it. I was pretty impressed he was right there with me about midway through first gear, but once he shifted (I was still at the top of first) into 2nd gear I started pulling hard. When it was all said and done up to about 80mph I had about five/six truck lengths on him. I'm not sure if he let out or not, but when I hit the brakes and slowed down he came flying past me and kept on going for at least a mile. He eventually turned off at the next light.

I was pretty happy despite it being an extended cab. I'm sure if it was a RCSB it would have been pretty different lol.

Good kill, any idea if it was a 4x4 or not? Rcsb's are about 5000lbs, QC's are about 5300lbs and either in 4x4 is another 300lb's on top of that. Heavy trucks kill any potential the hemi has. The guy is lucky you didn't keep racing up till 100, once these trucks shift into 3rd they really fall on their faces. Throttle plates close 10% in 3rd to make sure the A/F stays nice and rich.

Hypertech good for all of 5-8hp to the tires, an exhaust will be less then that. A CAI about the same. We just don't see the gains you chevy guys do for the same mods due to the computer issues that still aren't solved. Not until you go headers, cam and heads does the hemi really start to wake up.

I don't think it was a 4x4, at least I didn't see the badge on the tailgate when he initially took off. Although he certainly wasn't dropped despite him being on aftermarket wheels so I suppose he could have taken the badging off. I was expecting to win simply because of the weight difference but he really did stay with me through a good portion of first gear so that surprised me lol.

My buddy has a de-graphic/badged Rumble-bee that I've been wanting to run just to see how I'd do against a stockish RCSB. But he'll never go to the track and won't run on the backroads lol.

I raced one with the exact same mods a couple days ago... it was an ext. cab to. He pulled like a length on me off the line, but on the top of first gear and all the way through second he was like 3 or 4 lengths behind me. Basically the same situation i guess . These 20's wiegh me down a lot though... took away some get up and go. But then again all of the dodges have 20's also and he took off hard on me off the line. It impressed me i must say. He told me also that if he wants to go over a 100mph that he had to just turn the key forward to turn off the govener... thought that was interesting.

There's a little sweet spot in the ignition where you basically kill your gauge cluster, radio, air vents, but the truck still runs. This also disables the speed limiter. But it's a small sweet spot, turn the key a little too much and you shut off your truck.

Nice kill! I raced one myself and pretty much did the same thing, but only it was a short race. He got me off the line, which I was pissed off, cuz my TC bogs me down, but anyway the Hemi's (with) the stock 20's have a 3:92 axle, thats why they launch pretty good. Once I wound out first gear and hit second I had about 3 trucks on him. This guy had superchip's, exhaust, and a CAI. I thought they would be faster then what they are, but like you said TOE, they shut down. If they can unleash some of that real power, then it would be a closer race. The SCSB hemi's with the 17's on them are the one's to watch out for, there are pretty quick.

Dodges QC and an EC are the same thing. Their so called quad cab didn't have much more room if any than my EC GMC does. Besides, he siad it had a Hemi so we knew what he was talkin about...Nice kill man, gotta love those Hemis

You guys with your 5.3's always laugh at the hemi and all that but I must disagree. I am fine when it is a legitimate loss but I have only raced one 5.3 and I lost. His fastest 1/4 time is 15.2 and mine is 15.3 my mods at the time were 3.55, open diff, superchips and volant CAI. His mods were, 3.73's, G80 posi, LT headers, cam, torque converter, CAI, exhaust and tune. The guy is really cool and perhaps he will chime in as he is a member on this forum but I just don't see all you guys with a tune and barely anything else beating all these 5.7 liter rams.
