I wasn't too keen on the reverse split idea either. I think Martin got it right on the money though for the direction I want to go with the truck. Still going to be a fairly noticeable cam but work well both in and out of boost to get this heavy turd rolling. Now for the fun part, front diff install time!

Well the front diff went back in and the truck is running/driving under it's own power again. What a relief. My daughter was born on 2-24 so the truck has been put on the back burner again. I'm still planning on collecting parts but as far as any work getting done to the truck I have NO idea when I will find the time.

I've also started to second guess my turbo selection. I'm thinking of maybe backing off to a 1.10 a/r with either an 83 or 87mm turbine. I just don't want the 1.32 a/r 96mm turbine turbo to be a laggy bitch and not as much fun to drive on the street. But since my turbo knowledge is very limited any advice in that area is much appreciated!

The whole need for T6, huge exhaust wheels, billet this and that is all completely overblown on a street vehicle IMO. It's all marketing and the bigger is better mentality.

The goal on a street turbo vehicle should be response and fun factor. When you put the foot down, boost should be there now. Even the 83 turbine will support 800-850 rwhp which is more than you can use on the street. Rode in Smokeshow's T6 1.32 ex cab several years ago and it was noticeably laggy from the passenger set but then hauled *** when it got online. The boost from my 75/83 comes on fast, but it's by no means instant it takes an instant for it to come on and it's noticeable, would be much worse with a 96 tubrine. This is where a blower would have the advantage on a street vehicle. I don't put any stock in the people talking about the spool in their LS foxbody sitting on the line on a transbrake with 5" exhaust dumping out the bumper (and claiming its a street vehicle).

So you're saying I shouldnt run a 5" downpipe and exit it through the hood or passenger side fender?? Damnit, that was the whole plan!

On a more serious note, I completely understand what youre saying. With my plans to run the quick spool valve I wasnt really all that worried about the oversized turbo as much and spooling it quickly but since I am going to be running one of Ricks new twin scroll manifolds the quick spool valve wont work. So, it was back to the drawing board on the turbo. I am still going to run a T6 just because thats what the manifold is set up for and I mean come on, bigger IS better sometimes, haha. But I think I will be stepping down in exhaust wheel and a/r to hopefully allow this thing to still be fun on the street. Although I do plan to take the truck to the track as often as I can.

wow this is a monster!

Get a hold of LJMS or Reed from Work Turbo for turbo options. Great guys that know the ins and outs with proven results.

What is everyone using for a turbo blanket on an s400? I found one made by PTP that looks like a nicely made piece for about $160. Not sure if I can post the link because they aren't a sponsor. Just looking for whats going to hold up the best and not be outrageously expensive.

And yet another question because searching online has gotten me a lot of dead ends with not much info. I am trying to compare my current turbo selection of the BW S480, 96mm turbine and 1.32 a/r to see what is close to or the same in either a Garrett OR Holset turbo. I know the Borg is the obvious choice for most people but some things came to light recently with a relative of mine and if I can find a comparable turbo in one of those two brands I can come out waaaay ahead on the $$$ side of things. And, if I end up not being happy with a Garrett or Holset turbo, I can always pick up the Borg and not hurt my wallet. So, who can point me in the right direction to figuring out which of those two turbos would be as close as possible to what I've picked out in the Borg?? Thanks in advance!

You need to look at the compressor maps and see how they perform. Really though, if you are worried about spool, a s400 76mm with a 87mm exhaust on a 1.10 will spool just fine on a big v8.

I'm not so much worried about spool, just trying to figure out which Garrett or Holset turbo will be as close as possible to the slightly bigger Borg that I was planning on buying in the first place. Because if I can get my hands on one of the other two for nothing out of pocket I'm not out anything if it doesn't end up performing how I want it and I can then purchase a Borg later on.

Probably something in the GT45xx or GT47xx range. Not sure about holset turbos.
