High gear is 273, 323,342
Low gear is 410, 456 , 488

You want to be max hp rpm crossing traps or slightly higher this way your not coming up short in the rpms crossing traps.
Staying in powerband in lower gears hurts you

A truck only going 125s in quarter unless it has a very low power band can run 430s with a 30" tire or even 456s

But that's nonsense some think....yet those guys who haven't tried it are slower

George I'm not going to get into details, but I've made exactly 4 quarter mile track passes and I've yet to get anything remotely close to a full clean pass. But I do agree that I could stand to gear down a bit if you want to get technical about it. Remember, we are talking about street trucks here, not race trucks. A/C, full weight, 20s, you know

Race truck or street truck...doesn't matter or street car or race car ....it all applies the same theory and as stated many don't have enough gearing

And having AC doesn't make ya a street truck ...it's just an option some choose to retain.

This isn't to talk down on anyone's setup so don't take it as it is....its just if ppl would quit going off the need less gear thing, you would have a lot different results

As this was brought up only cause of converter slip

^ hes right ya know

Guys run high gears and think they are fast because they build boost (on a turbo) more easily while low gears get down the track faster. I guess it depends if you want to make boost or go fast.

No one is actually disputing him; I agree.

Considerations are different for a street truck vs. a racetruck tho.

Holding all other factors equal, tires and trans, lower R&P gears will generally reduce fuel economy. I personally saw 5 mpg difference highway between 3.42s and 4.10s. 488s with 35s is probably similar to 342s with stock tires.

Actually 410s would of be close to 342s but when your at 1600 rpms at 70mpg and now only 2200 wit 488s. The motor is far happier and using less fuel

My other truck loved the 410s with 30" vs the 373s and 30"

Motor works less so fuel increases in some cases
