Default Time to build the 5.3

Scooped up a block today. my 5.3 in it now needs a rebuild so got another block to build. Plans are for cam, lifters, long tubes, stall, and I'll get some 4.10s too. I'm going to rebuild the heads I have since I have the 862 casting. But first the block is off to the machine shop tomorrow. I'm going to do the Comp Cams Thumpr cam. Anyone here have running that cam I interested in feedback on it if so

plans are to drop it more @ a 2/4 currently (springs/schakles,hangers) going to at spindles and do a flip, keeping the hangers and putting factory shackles back on which should put me @ 4/8???

Nice Truck.. look somewhat like my 2000,
I did a engine swap on mine last week from a 5.3l to a LQ9 6.0l punched out to 6.2l w/ factory LS3 pistons & rods, anyway i also had the 862 heads but had them machined and installed factory LS1 valves & springs also ported and polished, Along with the other bolt on's & Tuning as you can see on my profile the truck ran pretty good, but not quite the cam your running, but after the swap and using the same cam in the 6.2l I see why people like the 6.0l so much, This thing runs like the 5.3l on spary.. I was just wondering why your going back with a 5.3l instead of a 6.0l..

I like the 5.3 platform, and I got a free block to rebuild. So I'm not going with the thumpr can I'm going to do the hot LS cam kit from gm, ls2 pushrods, ls2 lifters. I'm pretty stoked to get this back from the machine shop. I'm considering a valve job as well. I'll keep you guys up dated on progress.

In my build I went with a comp cam xr275hr with a 112lsa for better low and mid rang power but have to run a 3k stall if you want any power at take off, its always a well talked about cam for LS engines im unsure of a thumper cam I do know I have a friend with that cam in a carburated 350 with a stall and it still seems to be real sluggish at take off.

I would email comp cam and give them your specs and they will give you a good idea on a cam for your set up just make sure to get stronger push rods and springs rated for 600 lift ls7 lifters seem to be popular

I here different opinions on them but what I came up is they are just new factory replacements they dont have any performance improvments just all you can get for OE replacement lifters now for are motors, from what I hurd is if you cross reference your lifters now they will cross to the LS7 lifters. The cup height is taller on them so you may have to use a slight shorter pushrod thats why its always good to meashure and find out the proper length for good lifter preload
