I've had some craftsman deep sockets break like that before. Sucks when you don't have a backup & have to drive to the store to exchange them so you can keep on working.

Like I said I wasnt using an impact, just my 2ft breaker bar and a 5ft piece of pipe through the diff to hold it still while I tried to get the bolt off. I got all of the bolts except the last one, the one that broke the sockets. I did have a backup (left socket in picture), but broke that too.

My impact laughed at these bolts so I gave that up. I am a lot stronger with my 2ft breaker bar than my impact.

as far as the axles, you should be able to go to any cv shop & have them build you some beefier ones. back in my Z24 days, guys would have to have different cv joints built when they swapped in 3.8 supercharged motors because the stock Z24 axles couldn't take the torque of the 3.8

That's awesome... I always wanted to do a swap like that when I was a teenager. First car being a low-mileage Cavalier 2.2ohv didn't help.

Have you tried a hardened impact socket? One of those beefy things should take the abuse.
