Default RCSB Turbo 365 Project

Well I figured I would start a thread about what I've been up to lately. I originally started with an 05 crew cab Z71 5.3 truck, went through several setups including; 5.3 with bolt ons and cam, 6.0 heads/cam n2o, 6.0 tvs1900, and 6.0 turbo. Truck ran good, but it was obviously pretty heavy at 5900 lbs. Ran it at the track with the maggie to a 12.87 on 6psi, was maybe a little faster with the turbo at 7-8 psi, but the weight was killing me. So I found a deal on a 00 rcsb 4wd truck that needed a motor. I got it and put a $250 junkyard 5.3 in it for the time being, had an 80e built for it along with a circle-d converter, and put my kbracing tc76 turbo stuff on it. Truck runs high 11's with the stock long block 5.3. During this time, I have been building a 365 (.005" over 6.0) for the truck. Plan on 12 psi street, 17-19 for the occasion track run, and will still be running e85.

Here is the truck when I bought it.

Here is how it looks currently with a new hood, front end, paint, and lowered 2"

Turbo on the 5.3

Pistons, Autotec forged 4.005" bore 4032 pistons with the upgraded rings. Should be around 9.8:1 compression with 317's. Will be running E85 only.

Block prepped and painted, Old Chevy blue, saw it on here once, don't remember where, but I really liked the way it looked.

Installing crank and lubing journals.

Crank all buttoned up.

Pieces of the puzzle I am using. Autotec pistons, scat forged I-beam rods, isky 218 218 112 cam, clevite bearings, arp head studs, ls9 head gaskets, isky valve springs and pushrods. Pistons and rods are quite noticeably lighter than the stock 06 lq4 piston and rod combo.

Bottom end all buttoned up, head studs installed.

Thats where I am at so far, waiting on the rear barbell oil diverter plug, then I can fully close up the bottom end and get started removing the 5.3.
Let me know what you guys think, trying to get it done, broken in and tuned for the car craft summer nationals the weekend of july 22nd, should be done.

You can run boost on any cam you want really, it's just that some cams are more efficient than others. More people than you think use 112lsa cams for boost, its def not unheard of.

Speaking of boost I really want to get a procharger for my truck since it is almost paid off. Need to pay it all off first though. If I went turbo I would just keep my current cam but if I go SC I would want to change my cam. I'm leaning towards the procharger bc of the ease of installation and self contained unit.

Yes i know you can boost any cam, and their are a few running 112 out there like john. But i never hear anything other than you should run higher lsa cams just cause your suppose to, or for overlap reasons. As long as your not in what i would call the upper boost range(15+psi) i think the extra low/mid range power made would make up for anything lost for picking a lower lsa. I dunno just always wondered i guess, and now that i have a lower lsa cam and want boost it doesnt help my wondering any..

Good to see something somewhat different tho, definitely let us know what you think of it compared to your other cam and boost setups..

Stock48 spec'd this cam for me. I told him I wanted a compromise of good turbo cam and something that has a little sound. It might not be the "best" turbo cam, but if I wanted to have the"best" turbo drag race combo I wouldn't have started with a truck, lol. I'd say his truck speaks for itself as to whether 112 cams work. He is running mid tens on a stock longblock lq4 with a 212 212 112. And as far as running gear, using a built 80e, circled billet converter, new tcase, and a trutrac

Looks like you and I are going in the same direction with the lighter 4wd trucks, you are going a little bigger though.
