Grip. Try not to use water based cleaning products on the cast iron block as it will sometimes cause flash rust. Solvent will cut the oil and laquer thinner will make the surface very clean and dry.

You can do it man, just get the block honed and put it back together yourself. The LS2 rods have floating wrist pins so that wouldnt be an issue and if you keep everything in the same orientation I wouldnt even worry about checking bearing tolerances again. Would be worth it IMO...
