It's pretty much to my liking at this point, I'm just behind on posting some photos, so I'll go in order.

Here's where I left off back in february when I test fit the filter box that puts the outlet on an angle:

Starting to take shape:

Here's a comparison of the Airaid velocity stack (left) compared to the K&N I had from my previous kit, which brought up a new problem.

In addition to being out of round, the Airaid's outlet was 4" ID, whereas the K&N was 4" OD, same as the pipe I'm using for the tubing, which means that 4" ID silicone couplers will work with the K&N, but not the Airaid, which uses the GM rubber coupling seen a couple pics down.

Airaid:

K&N:

The problem with the GM rubber coupling, is that once it's on the Airaid velocity stack, the ID is now 3.75", so my 4" aluminum tubing won't go into it.

It's obviously asking too much for the two pieces to share the same bolt spacing, so I had to drill a hole in the Airaid heat shield:

Here I was debating not affixing the velocity stack to the heat shield at all, which would have been simpler because I wouldn't have had to cut the intake tube to match the angle of the filter:

It's no fun making things easier, so here I transposed the angle I would need to cut the intake tube, about 15°:

With the 22° silicone bend that would connect the filter to the intake pipe nicely:

Fast forward to this past weekend, where I cut the pipe at both ends and also cut a hole for the new cartridge MAF:

The legs of the pipe are now short, so this is as far back as I was comfortable putting the MAF to keep the incoming airflow as straight as possible before it hits the bend:

About 15° cut at the air box end:

About 10° cut at the throttle body end:

With both silicone bends on as it will fit on the truck:

Cont'd

As it's gonna sit:

Now just gotta find someone with reasonable skill with welding aluminum so I can get the MAF mounting boss installed.

You guys have any preference in belts? I might pick up an HD green gates and a gatorback just to compare/keep on hand. Opinion seems to be split 50/50 between the two on a bunch of forums I've been searching on. I've heard the HD can start squealing after only a couple thousand miles and that the gatorback can break...obviously there's a ton of variables involved with everybody's opinion, but what are you guys happy with using?

Any squealing or dusting off of it?

I'm also going to try out 100mm idler pulleys, and for this summer at least, keep the s/c pulley the same size, so would it make sense to go up in belt size by 1", or try 0.5"? I haven't measured the stock idlers but I think they're 76mm.

I use the green hd. No noises but I do get dust on the water pump. My pulley is grooved though so I'm sure it tears into the belt.

my setup is unique though because i made the tensioner bracket so not really sure where it lands compared to others
