Was thinking about this build a few days ago and was wondering what happened. Glad to see an update.

Finally installing what’s supposed to brand new 6l80 in the 2015 Silverado. I was driving home on Halloween night 2021 and gunned it to pass someone on the highway. When I did, I heard and felt a very loud bang and horrible grinding noise. I bought this back in November 2021 but got sidetracked with other priorities. The 6l80 that’s in the truck has somehow kept going for the last two years. The truck shakes , shudders, and flares. If I don’t gun it when taking off from a stop then it will buck like rodeo horse or Mater on the Cars movie. The vibrations inside the truck is like I’m driving over rumble strips on the side of road. The flares used to be mainly on any incline but now they are present when cruising. A couple of hundred RPM constant up and down. Like 1500 to 2000 back and forth nonstop. The stock one piece aluminum driveshaft was also warped so I swapped in a 2-piece steel one. It does ride smoother when the trans isn’t bucking , shaking, shuddering, and flaring. Anywho this is supposed to be a brand new transmission from Monster Trans. Doesn’t look it to me…..their customer service is sub par anyways. I should’ve waited to buy one but got antsy the night it started. Putting a tow and pro shift kit in it and a Circle D triple disc convertor. Plan on also adding remote mount filter with thermostatic switch w/ plate and bar cooler. Maybe the material is just from a “dyno” run the ensure the transmission functions? Seems like a lot of material for quick systems check though.

That’s metal pieces on the side of the pan

Neat oil pump gear seat from Boundary Racing Pumps

Eh. Not the worst I’ve seen on a new transmission.

Yes, Richard, the guys that give them self their own positive reviews to try and cover up all the bad reviews they have out on the Internet. It's not hard to find the bad ones either...

Yeah unfortunately I did. They wanted their special shipping container back even though they were not going to give my deposit back anyways. The fine print about needing my core and box back within something like 10-12 days. Anywho I told them thanks for the shipping container it could come in handy. I got it from them because it was like the quickest I could get or something. Oh well what’s done is done. Going through it now before I install it. We’ll see if it lives for any amount of time

As with any thrust bearing surface a sunburst pattern is a No-Go. The pattern literally wipes the oil film off as it rotates. Time to modify and polish….

If it’s good enough to do in a $$$$ engine then might as well do it to a cheap transmission…..

Nice sale over the weekend on this easy bolt on cooler for 2015 Silverado. Next big pieces are the convertor and inline thermostat/filter housing.

No such thing as easy bolt on with you. Tell me. You are planning some crazy solution to run through the cooler so the fluid stays attached to the tubes longer for more heat transfer?

Haha nah….they do that with coolers though. I can’t remember off the top of my head who all textures the inner surfaces but it is done. All sorts of different core textures like ribbed, swirls, etc. to add more surface area.

In case you go down that rabbit hole..... You want refrigeration tubing. It has fins on the inside of the tube for more surface area :p
