Default Midwest 4.8 new member project.

Starting a Build thread for my 2005 Silverado 4.8 RCSB. Picked it up from a buddy that had it on his lot in December with 98k miles. First pic is what it looked like when I got it home.

My plan is to daily drive this truck, and to initially make 450rwhp. I hope to have a decision on which direction I should go first. (cam/valve train etc...or straight to turbo system)

This weekend was the first one without all the crazy weather and holidays. I was able to get the windows tinted, body moldings removed, side steps removed. Installed keyless entry/alarm/remote start, and speakers.

Friday I plan to install the DJM 2/4 Drop coil/hangers/shackles/drop shocks/alignment, along with removing the pin striping once I get my hands on an eraser wheel.

If anyone has any input to provide let me know. I'm looking at the budget KB 72mm T70 setup.

I'm interested to know what folks are doing for injectors, fuel pump and exhaust on their builds.

Go strait to the turbo. Check out my build thread in my sig as I'm running a fairly stock longblock 4.8L right now with a turbo. It is extremely daily drivable and definitly the best set up i've run in my truck.

Thanks for the reply, I've looked at your build, very nice. I was reading it for the input on the 4L60e and how it didn't last very long. My thought was to run a smaller spring 6lb or so with a boost controller and hopefully that will keep the trans going for a bit longer.

I never ran a 4L60e So far I've run an NV3500, TH400, 700r4, and 4L80e. I would recommend the 4L80e if you are going to throw any power at it

Figured I would Update some photos after this weekend. Friday I was able to lower the truck and get it realigned.

I also spent a few hours today with an eraser wheel, buffing and wax to get rid of the worn out pinstripe and chevy decal.

This week I hope to have my fuel system ordered and a new front bumper to replace the bent one.

Default On3 Kit installed, still in progress

Haven't Posted any pictures but the past two days I got quite a bit of work done. I hope to eventually get a parts lists on here so that anyone searching a build like mine will know what a "bolt on" kit takes to "bolt on". I'm no where near complete, I still got a laundry list of things to do, but I hope to have that hashed out by this week sometime and then off for a tune where we can learn of more fun "bolt on" things. I definitely needed the help of my FSMT friend and his lift tools/expertise to tackle this in a timely manner.

Here's what I've done the past two days:
Felpro MLS head gaskets, ARP head bolts, LS6 springs, ARP manifold bolts, felpro manifold gaskets, NGK TR6 plugs (yes you can put them in with the On3 turbo manifold), On3 70mm turbo kit with WG, BOV, FMIC and all hot cold pipes *even though Chad NEVER answered my requests for pics of cold kits*, Sealed Catch can with check valve, Down pipe and exhaust connected, heater lines extended, oil return/in.

Lessons learned with the On3 kit installation:
1. No instructions/Pictures other than what is here on pt.
2. Front mount brackets need to be rebuilt, unusable. FMIC sits too high.
3. WG is a PITA to connect to the recirculated downpipe, seems to be about 1/2" off, we eventually got it to connect by loosening everything up and prying up on the downpipe from beneath.
4. Downpipe HAS to be cut, no way that thing would work without it, needs to be changed.
5. Yes, You can change plugs on On3 manifold, but you can not use stock length LS wires, they touch, will build custom length with 90* boot and go around manifold.

Once I get it tuned and running then I'll give a pro's and con's I think its still too early to measure.

Whats left for me: Fuel pump (dropped and broke my first one LOL) hot wire kit, coolant reservoir, TruBoost gauge/controller, Build ur own Spark plugs, sd tune, ls9 inj, MAP sensor.

*the pic of the FMIC is incorrect, we had to lower that around 3 inches and make new brackets for mounting.
