Default LQ4 to a 96 tahoe Swap

I posted thisin the new users thread but I figured I'd post it here too cuz hopefully it gets more responses and I can get some advice and help from you guys

As far as the wiring harness I am not all to sure what to do yet. I am not beyond cutting and spicing but I am always looking for an easier way that doesn't cost anything, or even very little would be fine (like 10 bucks). I'm in college for auto so I'm doin' it all there, but there I have the luxury of Mitchell On Demand and ALLdata so I can find wiring diagrams easily. So I guess I will end up gettin' there when I get there...hopefully soon.
My biggest issue I'm having right now I just found on here lastnight. I have a 2000 LQ4 and it just so happens to have a crank that is about 3/8" longer then 01+. The thing that is making it all f'd is the transmission and torque converter. I am hoping to use my 4L60E until I can afford a 4L80E (about September). Mating the LQ4 flexplate to a 60E torque converter is impossible without physical modifications to the flexplate. My 5.7 60E flexplate was crap, missin a tooth, teeth ground down, so I couldn't use that one. I read that someone had bought a TCI plate and just fliped it around the "wrong way". But it's gonna take some time and more research and I got some time we're in engine rebuilding at school and I will be tearing the 6.0 down tomorrow. I plan on a LQ9 cam and maybe a set of flat top pistons to ecentially turn into a LQ9 but with iron heads. But I will have to wait til I tear it down and measure everything before I can get to much into buying a rebuild kit.
But if anyone can give me any ideas as fars as LQ4 flexplate/ 4L60E converter mating or what to do with the wiring harness lemme know!!!

Wiring Harness Informationtry this for your wiring needs as far as the flex plate options some body else will have to help you ther.. if your changing cams why going with the lq9 cam you wont gain much for the time and $ spent id look into other cam options if it were me id also pitch the heads for a set of 317 factory aluminums they weigh next to nothing compared to cast and can be found for a decent price..

I have found that site before but I haven't much gotten to look over it, but i will again. I figure the LQ9 cam because there isn't anything major I would have to do to get it to work, and it would give me about 20 hp and 20 ft/lbs ( if my research has been correct) matched with a set of flat top pistons. I have looked in to a set of 317's and though they may be inexpensive I found this cam brand new for less then 100 bucks so I cant really beat that. i do have a set of 862 aluminum castings layin around so I maybe able to use those instead of the flat tops. Any input helps please give me advise.

I wanna say the LQ9 cam is the same as the LQ4 cam.. just the bump in CR is where the power comes from?

The wiring is very easy.
All the pink wires in the harness are fused and powered from the IGN.
Orange wires need 12V constant
Black wires are ground.
large purple wire is your starter wire.

The only thing about splicing the fused wires is current draw. On the LQ4 4 injectors are on one fuse and the other 4 are on a different fuse, same with the coils. I don't want to (as my teacher says) let the smoke out of the wires or the fuses. Plus the 96 runs all 8 injectors off one fuse and there is only one coil to control. I'm worried that one fused wire that was originally ment to contol the CPI on the 5.7 can control the MPI on the 6.0 and coils without burning the wires up or contiually popping fuses. Anyone have any words of wisdom? Gettin closer to having a complete engine to put in so I'd like to get this wrapped up soon. Thank you!!!

The stock injector wiring setup has no problem running MPI. Many guys are running individual injectors without a problem on their MPI vortec setups.

Here is a link to the marine intake thread on pacificp forum. It discusses how to wire a MPI setup from CPI.

Your 4L60E should bolt up with that long crank 6.0 no problem, just slot three of the LQ4 flexplate holes to match the converter,if you listen to most on these forums, that transmission won't live long enough for the slotted flexplate to ever be an issue...As for the wiring, its pretty straightforward once you get into it,consistent notes and clear labelling will get you through it.The single 20A circuit in the OBS fusebox should handle the pink coils and injector circuits on the 6.0 without any grief, not a big deal to add another fused circuit if that makes you feel better.

Thanks for your input. I am pretty sure I've gotten the wiring finished (haven't had all that much time with "Frankenstien"). I just got to get the motor in and I should be ready to go for the most part. My next issue is gonna be exhaust but I think I'm just gonna go custom at one of the shops in town. Is there a minimum size I can go with out suffercating to much? The shop told me they can't bend 3" and their really not the place to fab anything up, so I'm wonderin what I can do there.

Started it and runs beautifully!!! But I don't have reverse, I'm very sure it's not wiring. I rebuilt the trans along with the engine, so I think it's in the valve body. Still have some research to do but I'ma get it!!!
