I have a TCI flexplate which is thicker and reinforced around the hole so that takes away some of the engagement of the bolts.

 

Those measurements are with my PI converter and TCI flexplate. I’m not saying it’s identical to yours, but does stand a good chance of it, assuming you still have a PI converter as well. If you switched to another brand, there is no telling what length you will need for proper engagement.

 

I have my PI...but looking at the threads in the converter with a mirror it only looks like the bolts went less than half way into the converter...

 

Yours may have different lugs welded on than mine, beings mine is a couple of years old. Who knows, all you can do is measure and use what’s appropriate.

 

If youve got a set of calipers you can just use depth checker part of it and figure out what you need really easily.

 

So, in the inspection cover picture I see the 3 TC bolts, but what are the other 2 chunks of metal?

 

Good news, got it running again today. I ended up using some 20mm bolts and shimmed the converter 2mm since it was at the upper limit of allowed separation from the pump, also put a dab of blue loctite on the bolts. A few turns with a thread tap cleaned up that one hole enough to get the bolt going. I drove around for a while, then took the cover back off and retightened everything just to make sure.

I also figured out what that horrible scratching noise was...appearently there was a clearence issue with the inspection cover...good thing its soft metal I suppose... I dremeled some more away just in case.



The little chunks in the inspection cover is actually a piece of the oil pan that a bolt hit. If you look directly behind the bolt in this picture you can see where it broke off.


So far I feel like ive gotten really lucky...

Oh and here is my finished exhaust...I think I may try to find a stock duramax muffler to put there since its still louder than I would like with the two magnaflows.

 

Is that your cut-out? What happens when you close it? Where does it dump?

 

Yes...when I close it it goes through the mufflers, when I open it it just dumps straight out
