The exhaust was way to friggin loud, worst sounding, droned so bad you wanted to jump out of the truck on the highway. Without a window open you'd have a headache in minutes. So I had a shop add a magnaflow 12599 muffler and get the exhaust over the rear axle.
Now it's kinda too quiet.
Does anyone else have a problem with the 1 7/8" speed engineering long tubes hitting the steering shaft? Motor mounts look fine.
I've got Speed Engineering 1-7/8" headers on a '02 Tahoe 5.3. They don't hit the steering shaft but they're dang close. I had fitment issues with the headers hitting frame rails on both passenger and driver side... replaced motor mounts and gained ZERO clearance.
I ended up denting mine... the motor mounts are a PIA!!!
Also, I ran MSD wires with mine and they were nice because I was able to bend the boot to gain clearance between the header and wires. Migth be something you want to look into!

Glad to hear someone else had similar experiences with these. Going to dent the header in a bit to clear the shaft, the steering vibration is... 'interesting' to drive with, to say the least.
Seems more and more of the Speed engineering headers are not clearing any of the 4wd/awd trucks without use of the BFH.
Thanks for the info, have been researching for awhile and LPP is the same way.
Nice clean truck.
What paint and primer did you end up using after you scaled the frame?
Yeah, I ended up using the Speed engineering exhaust as well, it didn't clean one of the cross members without some modification, otherwise it was a nice system if you want it that loud. All said and done now I could have just boughten a nice Corsa system which I really wish I had done from the start.
After scaling I used just brush on rustoleum oil base rust primer then let it cure for 2 days. Then used oil based gloss black rustoleum. Stuff worked very nicely.

my pacesetters have been hitting the steering linkage for like 3 years now and all its done is rub a smooth spot on both but no real damage. rubbing your fingers on it you cant even feel the spot.
